Houston Outdoor Learning Academy, or HOLA, is a full-time school for students in grades 6 through 12 who wish to combine their innate curiosity, love of the outdoors, and academic growth into an educational setting that uses a hands-on approach to enhance self-esteem, multiple intelligences, academic knowledge, social skills, and personal success.
Our international expedition is both a motivation and culmination of the year's studies. This year our destination is Argentina in May of 2013. On our last trip we traveled to Nicaragua and did service work at the National Zoo and the Melania Special Needs School in Masaya, Nicaragua. The students also spent time in the jungles of the Rio San Juan in southern Nicaragua. We traveled to Nepal in April of 2010 and Guatemala and Belize in the spring of 2009. We hiked the Everest base camp trail for 14 days from Lukla to Dingboche in Nepal and in 2009 we visited Tikal, traveled in the Peten rainforest to the El Peru Mayan site, did community service in Antigua, and snorkeled the coral reefs of Belize. For more information on our 2009 Guatemala/Belize trip, last year's 2010 Nepal trek, or our 2011 trip to Nicaragua go to our trip blog at Guatemala 2009, Nepal 2010, and Nicaragua2011! We are still accepting applications for 2013-14 school year. We don't have the funding for a big marketing push and hopefully there are enough students and parents in Houston who discover HOLA and find it to be the perfect fit for their educational objectives. Call now to set up a visit and learn about HOLA.
